What is a Sydney Water Sewer Pegout, also known as a Service Protection Report?

A Service Protection Report - or more commonly known as a Sewer Pegout, enables the accurate plotting of Sydney Water assets onto your building plans.

This will then determine if your development area is within the Zone of Influence (ZOI) and if there would be any potential for damage or stress to these pipes during construction.

Why do I need a Pegout?

A Pegout Report is a requirement set by Sydney Water if you are proposing to build over or near a Sydney Water asset.

The sewer and water infrastructure in and around Sydney are an asset owned by Sydney Water and it is their responsibility to ensure that these sewer and water pipes are protected against any kind of damage.

A Pegout Report will be required in obtaining an approval (part of the Section 73 Certificate) before you begin any construction.

Reasons you may need a Pegout Report

A Sewer Pegout is usually needed if you are:

  • building a swimming pool, deck, gazebo or carport.
  • building a granny flat.
  • excavating your property.
  • installing a driveway or large paved area.
  • developing or building over a water or sewer main.
